Girls' Fun - Third Summary

Regular readers will know I've been transcribing edited highlights of a diary I kept when I was 15 / 16 years old, in 1985. I’m about to post the latest entry, but before I do I thought I’d better do a quick summary for newcomers and those who who have lost track.

In 1984 I was 14. I grew large breasts, joined a Youth Theatre and discovered I was capable of being something other than a frumpy swot. I had my first kiss and my first boyfriend.

By December 27th 1984, which is when this diary started, I was 15 and on to my second boyfriend. Well, sort of. Matthew got a little over-enthusiastic in the canoodling department and we ignored each other for a few weeks. Then we got together again. Then we split up again. Then he started seeing one of my best friends.

Meanwhile I sat mock ‘O’-levels (British school exams which I mostly failed to revise for), briefly went out with a boy called Stephen and continued to pine after Philip - sadly only a friend - that I’d been secretly in love with for the previous two years.

Yes yes, I know, I've told you all this before and the second summary was only three entries ago. But I have been a Terrible Slacker in the Transcribing Diaries department (and yes, I have just been reading NWM and it has rubbed off - what of it?) and it has been several weeks since the Second Summary and some of you might be new, or a bit forgetful.

So, the most recent transcribed entries focused on the fact that I asked Philip out at the YTY (Youth Theatre Yorkshire) party, and he said no because he thought it would spoil our friendship, and I was really upset but pretended I wasn't and that I agreed with him.

In the meantime I continued doing fuck-all revision for my O levels, which were creeping closer and closer, and still didn't show my parents my now-several-weeks-old school report. Apart from that I was flirting with several different boys as usual, and starting to go to Socialist meetings (which made me giggle because they all called each other "Comrade").
